Apple Cranberry Pie-The Easy Way

Notes
2ea. premade pie crusts (I prefer Marie Calander’s) – the easy way
Ingredients
- 6 Gala apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 8ths.
- 2 ½ cups of fresh cranberries
- 1 tsp. orange zest
- 1 ¼ tsp. ground cinnamon
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup of all purpose flour
- 1 egg
- Turbinado sugar
- 2ea. premade pie crusts
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
- Toss together in a mixing bowl the apple slices, fresh cranberries, orange zest, cinnamon, granulated sugar, and the all purpose flour.
- Add the filling to one of the premade pie crusts (be generous), then top with the other premade pie crust.
- Push down the top pie crust to the shape of the filling (don’t worry if it cracks, it will look ok when finished baking) then crimp the edges of the two crusts to make a good seal. Make sure there are some open slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Use the white of the egg and brush the top layer with the egg wash.
- Sprinkle the top with the turbinado sugar. (I use more than a sprinkle.)
- Place pie onto a baking sheet in the oven and cook at 425 degrees for 20 minutes, then turn down the oven temperature to 350 degrees and cook for an additional 70 minutes. Total cooking time 90 minutes.
- After 35 minutes of cooking at 350 degrees, loosely cover the pie with aluminum foil and rotate the pie 180 degrees.
- Allow the pie to thoroughly cool, 4-5 hours or more before slicing.
