Grilling A Steak Dad’s Way

Ingredients
- Good, quality steaks 1″ – 1 1/4″
- Dad’s Steak Rub
Instructions
- Always start with a quality cut of beef choice grade or better (prime or aged), check for marbling, the more, the better. Thickness 1” – 1¼” (mine were always 1¼”)
- Remove steaks from refrigerator and allow them to sit for approximately 1 hour to come to room temperature.
- Be sure cut is even so steak cooks evenly
- Cut off excess fat to prevent flare-ups
- Rub with “Denny’s Steak Seasoning”
- Preheat grill as high as it will go, 500 degrees + is best
- Place steaks on grill
- Always use tongs to flip steaks, NO FORKS!
- Allow steak to cook thoroughly on first side down to lock in juices but not to burn. (Watch for extended flare ups.)
- Do the same on the second side
- After a slight crust is formed on each side turn frequently changing direction each time of steak on the grill.
- The safest way to have your steak cooked as you like it is to use a digital meat thermometer. Removing steaks when the thermometer reads around 135 degrees will result in steaks cooked medium, 130 degrees medium rare, and 125 degrees rare.
- If you don’t have a meat thermometer, for a 1” steak, cook approximately a total of 6 minutes on the first side, and 4 minutes on the second side for medium to medium rare.
- After removing the steaks from the grill, allow 5 minutes for steaks to sit before serving.
